Agency Description

NWA Center for Sexual Assault

You should contact this agency 3-4 weeks before the start of the semester. NWA Center for Sexual Assault internships primarily revolves around shadowing our advocate staff – when they meet with their clients on-site when they conduct forensic exams alongside our sexual assault nurse examiners when they support survivors during meetings with law enforcement and prosecuting attorneys – wherever they’re needed. Interns are also assigned to a primary outreach project (focusing on the African American, Latinx, Marshallese, LGBTQI and faith-based communities), though they may assist with all of the projects. Other opportunities include general community outreach, public speaking and training development, program and event planning, graphic design and social media campaigns, creating educational materials, staffing event booths, research assistance, crisis intervention and SANE exam experience.

Requirements for the Intern

  • Provide a minimum of three hotline shifts per month, at least one of which must be a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (calls are forwarded directly to the intern’s cellphone, this does not count as in-office hours). Monday through Friday hotline shifts begin at 5:30 PM and last until 8:30 AM the following day. Saturday and Sunday shifts begin at 8:30 AM and last until 8:30 AM the following day
  • Develop a work plan (either the one required by the student’s department or one provided)
