NWA Local Food Network – Public Health Internship Opportunity
Organization Summary: The NWA Local Food Network is dedicated to transforming how Northwest Arkansas connects with its local food system by educating consumers about the incredible bounty of farms, producers, and food businesses right in their backyard. Our flagship program, the NWA Local Food Guide, serves as the region’s premier resource connecting consumers directly with local farmers, markets, restaurants, and food producers to build a stronger, more sustainable food community. Through this guide and our educational initiatives, we’re helping families discover fresh, local options while supporting the hardworking producers who feed our region.
Potential intern responsibilities may include:
- Conducting public outreach at farmers markets through cooking demonstrations and nutrition education
- Assisting with event planning and preparation for conferences, workshops, and community gatherings
- Collecting and analyzing data through surveys and community assessments
- Developing educational materials and resources for farmers and consumers
- Supporting administrative tasks for the farmers market nutrition incentive program
- Creating content for social media platforms and marketing materials
- Contributing to content development for the 2026 Local Food Guide
- Assisting with fundraising event coordination and volunteer management
- Researching and outlining grant opportunities and funding sources
Specific duties will be tailored to match the interests, skills, and career goals of the selected candidate, providing valuable hands-on experience in community health, food systems, and nonprofit operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage diverse community members
- Genuine appreciation for local foods
- Creative problem-solver who can develop engaging educational content and outreach materials
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Enthusiasm for community health and food access initiatives
